Opening
The most common ways to open a game. Step through the moves with their ideas, then open the analysis board to continue against the engine.
Central Cannon vs Screen Horses
The most popular opening: Red puts a Cannon in the centre aimed at the central Soldier, and Black brings out both Horses to guard the centre.
Same Direction Cannons
Both sides put a cannon in the centre, with both Cannons on the same side of the board. A two-way attacking game, sharp from the start.
Opposite Direction Cannons
Black sets up a central cannon with the Cannon on the opposite side, the two Cannons crossing. Black counter-attacks from the very first move.
Pawn Opening
Red opens with a Soldier move: discreet, hiding its plans and keeping options open. A favourite of masters.
Elephant Opening
Red moves an Elephant on move one: a solid defence that shields the palace first, attacking later.
Horse Opening
Red brings out a Horse on move one: developing quickly without showing where the Cannon will go.
Cross-Palace Cannon
The Cannon runs sideways across the palace to the other file. The idea is to mass force on one wing rather than strike straight down the centre.
Palcorner Cannon
The Cannon stands at the Advisor's corner, next to the palace: guarding home and ready to switch to attack.
