The Cannon captures by jumping over a screen
The Cannon moves like a Chariot when not capturing. To capture, it must jump over exactly one piece (the screen) between it and its target.
Without a screen, the Cannon can't capture a piece standing right in its path.
Use the Cannon to capture a black piece.
